"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
This is the text of the Second Amendment to the United State Constitution, part of the Bill of Rights. It is worded exactly as it's authors intended. The collective amendments in the Bill of Rights are all intended to be applied to the individual citizens of the United States. One of the reasons for it's inclusion is that it was designed to be a defensive measure of the encroachment by the state against the collective natural rights of the people.
There are many false opinions that the Second is the only amendment which applies not to the citizens, but to the state. This perspective is not only incorrect, but dangerous and naive.
